A statement in response to recent events

In response to the events in our community, nation, and wider world, the Choir School staff joins our Board of Directors in releasing the following statement:

We are saddened by the senseless murders of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, and Breonna Taylor in Louisville. They join too long a list of names that have had their voices taken from this world by a history of systemic racism, discrimination, and inexcusable police brutality.

As a choir, we know that beautiful music can only be made when all voices are heard. Since our founding, we’ve been committed to excellence and accessibility, welcoming talented young singers from all walks of life and all racial backgrounds. The diversity our program represents has been the key to our success for twenty-seven seasons.
We remain committed to listening with open minds to all members of our community, valuing everyone’s voice, and seeking to change when we should.

In this moment we especially recognize the importance of adding voices to a chorus, so we add ours: Black Lives Matter.

We will continue to listen to, advocate for, and advance the Black community, and provide a platform for their voice to be heard by all.

We’re looking for singers for our 2020-2021 season!

Do you know a child who loves to sing? Introduce them to The Choir School! We’re recruiting for our 2020-2021 season right now, and we have openings in all of our Choirs. Learn more about our program and join us for an upcoming information session.

Announcing our 27th season

We’re thrilled to announce our new season, including our three signature concerts held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. This year, our season features new ways to connect our choristers and our community as we make joy in Uptown Charlotte. The Choir School program makes a tremendous difference in the growth of our choristers, as musicians and as individuals — and we’ve done this for 27 years! As our choristers from across the community work together to sing and perform, our program continues to deliver the unique experiences that come from lending their voice to a group endeavor. We can’t wait to welcome you to a concert and get you involved as we continue our mission to offer the best choral music education for Charlotte’s most talented young people.

The Campaign for Twenty-Five

Over the last 25 years, The Choir School has brought the power of arts education into the lives of hundreds of choristers. We’ve traveled thousands of miles on tour, taught hundreds of songs in dozens of languages, and brought the beauty of choral music to more audience members than can be counted.

As members of the Choir School family, we all have a lot to celebrate. This is why we’re so pleased to announce The Campaign for Twenty-Five.
