Hello Friends and Family of The Choir School.
Thank you for all you have done to help us arrive at this wonderful day – our first together in England! We are so excited to be only days away from our residency at Salisbury Cathedral, and thrilled to have a few days first to explore some famous sites in and around London.
Our friend Joslyn Schaefer commissioned us to approach our time abroad with a sense of wonder, a sense of history, and a sense of mission. Our guide Peter Baldwin helped us do just that today, beginning our English adventure with an afternoon at Hampton Court Palace. The palace is located in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and was a favorite of King Henry VIII. Its rooms, including King Henry’s personal apartments, are filled with an astonishing collection of art, furniture, and historical artifacts. The palace also offered us a look at grand architecture, gardens, and a chapel which has been in nearly daily use for 500 years.
Tomorrow brings an opportunity to tour another of England’s great cathedrals as we visit Canterbury – also the setting of Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales!
